Luxury Adventures are doing a series of interviews with some of our key suppliers looking at the different aspects of their lives and how these influence the experiences they offer. Terrace Downs is located in Canterbury, close to Mt Hutt ski fields on the South Island, New Zealand.

What are the different accommodation options at Terrace Downs Resort? We have two different options here at Terrace Downs Resort, Terrace Villa Suites are self contained units with luxurious beds, a delightful raised spa bath and spacious open-plan living areas. The Villa Suites range from one to three bedrooms, including a family suite ideal for those travelling with children. The Villa Suites all look out directly onto the 18th Fairway, with a spectacular view of Mt Hutt from across the back nine holes of the golf course. The Chalets are separate, architecturally designed, four to seven bedroom houses spread out amongst the resort. Theses beautiful Chalets boast all modern conveniences and great indoor-outdoor living areas.

What sets Terrace Downs apart from other properties in the Canterbury area? Our short drive to the Mt Hutt ski field area, our fantastic views and the option to escape the city and enjoy the High Country retreat.

Where do most of your guests at Terrace Downs originate from? We are internationally recognized and have quests travelling from across the globe, as well as national guests coming from across New Zealand for an escape.

Tell us about the design of the golf course at Terrace Downs. Based at the foothills of the southern alps, there are few scenic alpine courses like it. The golf course is fun and challenging for all golfers. Designed by Sid Puddicombe, the 18-hole par 72 championship course measures 6,406m. The front nine offer a beautiful example of a great parkland course, while the links-style back nine provide exceptional views of Mount Hutt and the Rakaia river.

What major championships past and present have been held at Terrace Downs and are there upcoming competitions you can tell us about?  We host two major events each year that bring over 100 golfers, the Senior pro-am and the Terrace Downs Open. the most famous golfer to play the course that we know of is Sir Bob Charles, we attract other pro golfers from the Asia tours here to the resort to practice before the season. We just recently had a pro golfer from the Japanese circuit Sousi Tajima use the facilities as a training camp before the start of the Japan season.  Due to the weather being so unpredictable we can not hold any of the major NZ tournaments.

Do you offer golf lessons and courses at Terrace Downs? This is something we are looking at for the future, we currently have a training pro golfer working here at the resort.

Many of our international clients do not travel with their own golf clubs, what are the options for equipment rental? We have a different variety of clubs to choose from in right hand and left hand such as Titleist, Taylor made and Nike.

As well as golf the Terrace Downs also offer a range of other activities tell our clients more about these options.  We have lots of different activities such as claybird shooting, archery, spa treatments, walking tracks, fishing tours, horse riding and many more. What other on site facilities and activities are offered at Terrace Downs? Tennis courts, Spa, Walking tracks, Claybird shooting and archery are all on site.

What top three activities in the Canterbury area would you recommend to our clients with 3 days in the area? Seeing the Lakes in the area, Christchurch city, skiing in the winter season.

If guest want to dine off site, which restaurants would you recommend in the area? Methven has a different variety of restaurants to choose from and only a 25min drive away from the resort.

Terrace downs is in a great location to Mt Hutt for skiing, how does Mt Hutt compare to the other South Island ski fields?  From what I have heard Mt Hutt is one of the best. I don’t ski myself but I know a lot of locals that cant wait to get up to the mountain and start skiing again.

For guests staying at Terrace Downs what do you recommend doing and exploring around the region?  There are lots of different scenic drives up to the lakes, If your a Lord of the Rings fan then a trip to Mt Sunday where they filmed Edoras is a must. Lots of different attractions in Christchurch.

Are there any current specials we can tell our clients about? We have different packages for people to benefit from. We are currently offering a Ski package.
